This is what
RescareNZ's Initials
mean
Rights
RescareNZ continually promotes high quality standards of care within services wherever they are. We will support you if you need to address issues in education, daycare, residential and/or respite care services.
Education
RescareNZ has a series of leaflets which are available to doctors and professionals throughout New Zealand. Parents, siblings and carers of a person with an intellectual disability can also order copies through our national office and copies are available on our Web Page.
Support
RescareNZ members can be linked with you, through our National Coordinator, to talk over problems. Parent to Parent support and friendship is invaluable when coping with difficult issues.
Choice
RescareNZ supports parents and siblings in making the best choices for their family member. We believe that most families understand the needs of their intellectually disabled member and act in their best interests. They must be included in decision-making around their family member’s life
Advocacy
RescareNZ members can offer their experience when you must advocate strongly for your relatives needs and may act as your support person at crucial meetings. We will also lobby officials and organisations for change on your behalf.
Resourcing
RescareNZ has a wealth of information to help you help yourself. Our database includes resource people across New Zealand. If you want to create a local parent/family support group we will help you by providing information on setting up and running a group. This information is available through the national office.
Effective Lobbying
RescareNZ tries to make submissions on any legislation affecting people with an intellectual disability. We believe our parent perspective gives us a different approach from that of experts and service providers and must be part of the process in the development of good legislation and services
